The Importance of Gathering: Why Church Should Be a Priority
Apr/23/2023
Attending church is an essential part of the Christian faith. It is a time when believers come together to worship, to learn, to fellowship, and to grow in their relationship with God. However, with the rise of online services and busy schedules, some may be tempted to skip church altogether. In this blog post, we will explore the importance of attending church and why it should be a priority in our lives.
Worship - One of the primary reasons we attend church is to worship God. It is a time to lift our voices in praise and adoration, to express our gratitude and thanksgiving, and to acknowledge God's sovereignty and power. "Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation." - Psalm 95:1. Worship is an integral part of our faith and attending church provides us with an opportunity to participate in collective worship.
Learning - Attending church also provides us with an opportunity to learn more about God's word. It is a place where we can be taught, challenged, and inspired. "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." - 2 Timothy 3:16-17. Church leaders and pastors have been called to shepherd and guide the flock, and through their teachings, we can grow in our understanding of God's word.
Fellowship - Church provides us with a sense of community and fellowship. It is a place where we can connect with like-minded individuals, share our joys and sorrows, and encourage one another. "Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." - 1 Thessalonians 5:11. We were not meant to live our lives alone, and church provides us with a place to connect with others and grow in community.
Accountability - Attending church provides us with a sense of accountability. It is a place where we can be held accountable to our faith and where we can hold others accountable as well. "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another - and all the more as you see the Day approaching." - Hebrews 10:24-25. Through accountability, we can grow in our faith and be challenged to become better Christians.
Attending church is an essential part of the Christian faith. It provides us with an opportunity to worship, learn, fellowship, and grow in our relationship with God. While there may be valid reasons for missing church from time to time, we should make every effort to attend regularly. By doing so, we can deepen our faith and grow in our relationship with God and with one another.
